Classical Ayurvedic Context

"Maricha (black pepper) with Madhu (honey) is a classical household anupana for Kaphaja Kasa. Pepper is tikshna and ushna, helping to break sticky Kapha; honey is yogavahi and traditionally used in cough so long as it is never heated."

Step-by-Step Preparation (Nirmana Vidhi)

Follow these instructions precisely to preserve the delicate volatile compounds and medicinal potency.

1
Crush 2-3 black peppercorns, or take a small pinch of coarsely ground black pepper.
2
Mix the pinch into 1/2 teaspoon of raw honey at room temperature. Do not heat the honey.
3
Lick the mixture slowly and allow it to coat the throat. Follow with warm water if needed.

Important Preparation Precautions

  • Use only a pinch of pepper. Larger amounts can burn the throat and stomach.
  • Never heat honey. Do not give honey to infants under one year of age.
  • This does not replace medical care for breathlessness, high fever, chest pain or a lingering cough.

Contraindications: Who Should Avoid

  • People with ulcers, severe gastritis, marked Pitta, or pepper allergy should avoid this mix.
  • Diabetics should account for honey and seek professional advice before using it regularly.
