Classical Ayurvedic Context

"Tulsi and ginger are classical Kapha-Vata pacifying kitchen herbs. Fresh tulsi leaves and ginger rhizome are simmered as a light decoction (kwatha-like tea) to kindle Agni, reduce Ama and ease Kasa and Pratishyaya. Honey, once the cup is warm rather than hot, is a traditional anupana for cough."

Step-by-Step Preparation (Nirmana Vidhi)

Follow these instructions precisely to preserve the delicate volatile compounds and medicinal potency.

1
Pour 1 to 1.5 cups of water into a small pan and add the tulsi leaves and ginger.
2
Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer for 5-8 minutes until the water is aromatic and slightly reduced.
3
Strain into a cup. Allow it to become comfortably warm.
4
If using honey, stir it in only after the tea has cooled below steaming heat. Sip slowly.

Important Preparation Precautions

  • •This is a kitchen support for mild seasonal cough, not a treatment for breathlessness, high fever or a cough lasting more than two to three weeks.
  • •Do not give honey to infants under one year of age.
  • •Stop if heartburn, mouth burning or allergy occurs.

Contraindications: Who Should Avoid

  • ✕People with marked Pitta aggravation, active ulcers or severe reflux may find ginger-tulsi tea too heating.
  • ✕Pregnant people, young children, and anyone on regular medicines should check with a qualified clinician before using it as a repeated remedy.
